Author: Ives, Andrew P;
Published: 28 July 2005

Abstract

Emphasizes the importance of engineers and engineering in helping to meet the environmental challenges that confront the planet and humanity in the 21st century. Provides a brief overview of Andrew Ives' career in the automotive industry including his time working for the Lucas Group Research. Defines science, technology, engineering and their inter-relationship and argues that society's views should change to see engineering of greater importance than science and technology in developing sustainable solutions to the world's environmental problems. Mention is given to the "Limits to Growth" project which considered how the planet would cope with population growth at the same time as depleting natural resources.
