Abstract
In his Presidential Address William Edgar reflects on some of the Institution's past presidents: George Stephenson, Robert Stephenson, William Fairbairn, Henry Selby Hele-Shaw and David Randall Pye. He gives a summary of his diverse engineering career which includes time at British Aircraft Corporation and Seaforth Engineering. He concludes by discussing the issues facing the Institution as the Trustee Board formulates its mid and long-term strategies.
