Abstract
This lecture reviews government energy policy and intervention in the UK and its effects on the electricity supply industry. The author looks at the pressures bought to bear by the government, regulators, the public and also the wider global community set against the requirements of running a competitive and strategically important business. It is suggested that lessons should be learnt from history if the industry to is continue a secure supply of electricity at an affordable price. The industry's impact on the environment is also examined.
