Abstract
The paper discusses the need for, and importance of, engineering sustainability, giving examples throughout.
Environmental issues, such as global carbon emissions and therise of carbon dioxide levels are discussed.
Tools for change, indlucing innovation, education and government intervention are suggested to be necessary.
A number of suggested key challenges to engineering sustainability are given: the need for retrofitting homes and modify lifestyle, and the need for new economic models, and solutions to the issues are suggested with reference to real-life projects.
